Author notes
CAN you find the bunny in the poem? its actually in there. the poem seems really weird and it is but it comments on how ridiculous the quest for success can become and of how, when we find it, it is not always what we think it is. Like a hunter, or fanged carnivore, we chase after the object called success, first seemingly obvious to define and find bur eventually taking on bizarre proportions.

: )
Very good! Not understanding the poem is the awakening of curiosity, and now that we have curiosity, I can carry my poem's message or thought across more interestingly ( i hope ). Not understanding the poem is also awesome because the message of the poem is all about how we fail to see the world around us clearly, how we fail to see our true goals and how we fail to see that we often can't reach them.
AN ESSAY COMMENT ON THE BUNNY POEM. I HOPE IT HELPS. CAPITAL LETTERS INDICATE EMPHASIS.
hi! Yeah, sorry bout that it's a little strange, for a contest, i know : ) It's severe "satire" ( humorous poetry ). The poem is about "success". A hunter becomes a metaphor for a person who wants success. The bunny is the metaphor for success. So the hunter wants to go search for the bunny.
Everyone wants success, right? So then everyone wants, in the metaphorical sense, to find the bunny.
But not everyone can be successful, can they? The poem is about loss, and I made it weird and funny so that we do not see our failures as crushing blows but as inevitable or silly so that we don't worry about it the whole time. Not only do we set up ridiculous goals for ourselves, FOOL OURSELVES, ( like chasing after animals with guns ), and not only do we often go about the wrong route to achieve success, but there will be ridiculous obstacles in life that will prevent us from achieving success. The hunter in the poem is guided by a confused, frustrating and harsh person, who is in fact his alter ego, or his inner self, his subconscious. The poem tells how HE IS FOOLING HIMSELF INTO THINKING THE BUNNY EXISTS, THAT HE CAN FIND THE BUNNY, ETC. The passive subject the poem is represented as silly, mute, idiotic, gullible, impatient and unsuccessful, and out of touch with his subconscious. His alter ego is cruel and impatient.
THERE IS NO BUNNY, NO MATERIAL SOURCE OF SUCCESS UNLESS WE MAKE SURE THAT WE, AS THE HUNTERS OF SUCCESS, ARE REALLY SURE ABOUT WHAT WE WANT AND ABOUT HOW TO GET IT. NOW I WILL ANALYSE THE DIFFERENT METAPHORS SO THAT I CAN CARRY MY THOUGHTS ACROSS MORE CAREFULLY.
Firstly, if anyone noticed, the capital letters B ,U ,N, N, and Y are scattered around in the poem and if you put them together you will surely be able to spell the word bunny. This emphasises the fact that bunny is ONLY A WORD, A CONCEPT THAT WE CAN SEE DIFFERENTLY, DECONSTRUCT OR RENEW. THEREFORE SUCCESS IS ONLY A WORD THAT LIES AROUND SCATTERED SO THAT WE CAN ONLY PICK UP THE PIECES AND PUT THEM TOGETHER HOW WE WANT THEM. THINK OF HOW MANY MILLIONS OF DIFFERENT IDEAS THERE ARE ABOUT WHAT IT MEANS TO BE SUCCESSFUL. Does it mean looking like Cindy Crawford? Doing well in tests? Not being like our parents? Dating the coolest guy in school? Are these things really what we want? Will we not be disappointed once we reach our life goal? Do you have to feel bad about not havinf reached these goals? Millions of people do. Of course they shouldn't.
Next metaphor: " You have to grow fangs or the bunny won't recognise you". Ever thought about how a wild bunny won't know what you are but he will run away from you like you are a wolf? Success won't recognise you either!!! It will run from you like a bunny!!! WHY? BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO WORK FOR SUCCESS. IT'S NOT GOING TO FALL INTO YOUR LAP. SUCCESS ( THE BUNNY ) WILL RECOGNISE YOU ONCE YOU ARE MORE TOUGH ABOUT WHAT YOU WANT. It may mean being tough on yourself. GETTING TO THE TOP IS NOT EASY. YOU HAVE TO LEARN TO STAND YOUR GROUND OR SUCCESS WILL ESCAPE YOU FAST, SO IN A WAY YOU HAVE TO GROW FANGS. YOU DON'T HAVE TO BECOME EVIL, YOU JUST HAVE TO STAND UP FOR YOURSELF.
next metaphor:
"....we all
have to learn....but that's just a shell you crack open...then opium will emerge...like
an Ugly little lizzard, that will scurry off.....................with your holy name on it!"
Really? What is going on here? In the poem the speaker tells you / himself that once you learn how to be successful it will happen, it will be like a drug that makes you feel great. No, life is an on-going learning PROCESS. We are constantly learning new stuff, or learning that we are repeating old stuff. Success is no drug. You are not just going to feel great when you have your goal. The speaker says that success will be like an ugly lizzard. This is not me being cynical. There is always something ugly about success. Success for you means that someone else will not have it. For every girl who becomes Miss America, for example, there will be 50 girls in the pageant who gome home feeling not beautiful enough. And it probably hurt them a little. Success is also ugly when we search for it during our entire lives. Think of what we sacrifice. So yes, there is always something slightly ugly about success.
Next: ".you see it's camouflage......in the snow"
Often, success is camouflage. We often want things for reasons we don't know or for goals other than the thing itself. Do we want big nice houses or do we want them to gain prestige in our societies? Do we feel we must have them because eveyone else has them? Many of us will never admit. Because success is often camouflage. We often need it to protect ourselves, to hide like bunnies in the cold snow. Some may tell you that everything we do in life we do to get, subconsciously, sex.
"...Guns are made of bunnies..."
Again, there is no sure way of getting or shooting success. The gun is made of the bunnies ( success ). What you use to get success determines the kind of success you will find.
Like a wild bunny success is constantly on the run from us, it likes to camouflage itself, it is soft and seemingly innocent and harmless...The speaker of the poem has realised his quest was sad and ridiculous, and doomed. His best friend is wearing the bunny skin, not him. His gun, his method to success, is nothing but the corpse of a bunny that he holds in his hands. He has failed, before he even set out to find the bunny.
The poem probably hasn't told you much you didn't already know, but it's about trying to express that horror of failure in A NEW WAY. IN A GROSS WAY. FAILURE IS OFTEN GROSS. IN REALITY, WE ARE HARD ON OURSELVES. IT SUCKS. But before you think of yourself as a grand failure, ask yourself who set up the standards or what they really were.
This poem actually represented the ideal goal, where the speaker has found out that his method to get success is wrong EVEN BEFORE HE HAS SET OUT TO FIND THE BUNNY. Unlike many others, he has not yet spent an entire life chasing after an empty dream. he realises he must take a new route for success or define it differently. Success can be sad. Once you have it, you may never want to lose it, even if that means becoming tough and mean. You may change. So ask yourself: What do you really want? -
i don get it srry..cs u explain??
