and I Smile

Missing image

Soft as the evergreen grasses grow
Wind in the willows that peacefully blow
A song in the air as the day is dawning
And I smile to see the night that’s yawning

Sweet sweet dreams to the stars on high
Hushed in the shadows that cross the sky
Light has come to the heavens so blue
And a honey bird settles to take in the view

A wattlebird sings as he flutters around
While the parrots chatter below on the ground
And the butcherbird dives – he has seen him some prey
And the small Aussie minors are landing to play

There in the bushes a small lizard is hiding
While Maggie hunts there – his time he is biding
And a butterfly flutters on the gentle cool breeze
And there’s a chorus of birds high up in the trees

As I lift up my eyes and look into the air
A formation of birds is soaring up there
Beautiful birds with wings fully spread
Glide silently over – way over my head

And I sigh with delight – at the wonders I see
At Natures display she paraded for me
And I smile to see the day that’s yawning
For another new night has now come calling

You have such a beautiful style

This poem is such a peaceful walk through
nature. I love the yawning, the heaven's
so blue, the birds, the song in the air.
    Another wonderful poem.

Thanks, Artie. Your comments are appreciated. I love to sit out in my yard and watch the birds playing and diving into the water bowls we leave out all over. They are so beautiful. The Aussie minor is a real character. The clown of the bird world I reckon. He goes everywhere with Maggie and seems to be the offsider whatever they do. I would love to know what their relationships mean. I'll keep watching and I will learn.

A brilliant and wonderful story. You painted one joyous picture here my friend.

I enjoy wild life here, as well. Deer, elk, and big horn sheep to name a few.

Thanks, doolie. Glad you liked this piece. We don't have elk or big horn here, but I'd love to see one. Maybe the zoo is where I should go.

Thanks, mate. I love to watch the birds in our garden and they do give me so much joy! The Aussie minor is such a character. Maggie often beats him up but he just gets up and carries on. I love birds!

It is so easy to capture the beauty and breathtaking views of nature in poetry, but it is hard to pen all of it. The poem itself seems as natural as the green of the grass. The metrical flow is lovely, and the rhyme is not rushed or mechanically placed there. Everything fits together, word for word. I quite enjoyed reading this.

    Write on,
    Brit

Thanks, Bob. You can always find something wonderful when you join nature in the garden. I love watching these birds frolicking around in our yard. The little Aussie minors are the clowns of the bird world, always up to some antic. I noticed the other day that the Aussie not only accompany the maggies everywhere, but also the butcherbirds. We saw them at work. The butchers brought their young down for a feed of meat we give them every day, and lo and behold, who should be with them....the Aussie minors. I think they must be the baby sitters. Thank you for you wonderful comment and enjoy your piece of nature.
