Lost Identity

What is the Nationality of this person?

African Slaves were taken to Jamaica by force
Taken from the African Coast
Held captive in Jamaica as slaves
Unable to return across those distant waves

Ancestors had children in captivity
Mother and father are from this family
Youngest child born in Jamaica in 1957
British rule was enforced around the clock 24/7

In 1962 Jamaica was said to be independent
To England in 1963 the youngest was sent
He was only 6 and had no say in the matter
All he knew was that he was to meet his mother

He attended school until he was aged 15
Given National Insurance Number under the present Queen
Same number used right up till now
All of a sudden he is an illegal immigrant and wants to know how

He is being refused work because he is illegal
Receiving JSA benefits which are not very beneficial
Where did he go wrong to now become unemployable?
Now living a life which has become unbearable

Tell this person what Nationality he is
Tell him yours and then tell him his
Your conclusion could decide his situation
Will he be returned to Africa or to another nation?

The years is now 2008, and he has never left this country
He is like someone who has lost his identity
When was it lost he needs to know
So he can decide where he is to go

Some People Say

Some say he is a Jamaican and should be proud
And when asked he should shout it loud
Some say he is an African who has been stolen away
And is still captive up until this day

Some say he is an English Man, for that’s all he knows
And should have the right to decide if he stays or goes
Some say give him a totally new identity
As he is a victim of historical inequity

Very Good, but sad if it is true

This poem is based up a true situation and the question is genuine
