early affinities

I

of those memories of which i am intimate
four siblings sharing a plate of fries seems to stick

necessity brought us together in that poverty
in which none of us felt inadequacy

II

i remember fondly those fried green tomatoes

over-peppered by aunt pat's enthusiasm

always the first stop relative to our blood in georgia

i was certain there were scant pigs to produce fatback in florida

III

there always seemed a rareness of red clay in duval

except when certain sentimentalities would bleed over

This is wonderful bro! Made me all sentimental and thinking of my own memories.

  • Bittersweet, there is a sadness to this sentimental piece, but with a strand of hope to spare. Nicely done!

Well-done again -- I could almost taste those fried-green tomatoes -- they really don't do them well except in the South. Your descriptions are so rich and vivid.

This has such a wealth of imagery in it - the food links between the first and second segments are interesting - and I love the blood/clay textures of the poem thank you for entering!

the incorporation of food with feelings here is so smooth and warm at the same time! I could feel the family and realness. Quite the nice job and good luck in the contest.
