We had something.
I woke up just to be with you.
You were there to comfort me, always.
The way you held me I was perfectly sure
That you truly loved me.
You said that we were good friends,
But your eyes told a different story.
We had nothing.

This has a very mature and sober conclusion that shocks us with the truth. I'm sure that many couples - if they looked deep enough - would find the same answer. Really like the lines, "The way you held me I was perfectly sure/That you truly loved me." We do allow ourselves to be fooled by hope at times. Smart, honest and poignant.
