The Dying Day

Missing image

the smooth ebony cross lay
clasped in her hand
an act of defiance
or a false belief -

silence wrapped around her
holding her immobile
rays of the dying sun
pierced the stained glass
bathing her in vivid colour
lighting the black world
of her own making

her body, cold and unyielding
eyes, blind and unseeing
a smile of release
on her lips

a broken rosary
at her feet

I can see you are set free by free verse, which is as it should be. Now then, gather your strength and give us more of the same, but with bolder images, more startling metaphors. You know you can do it.

You did a wonderful job - whipping up dark words together and weaved into an enchanting dark poem. Well done. Thanks for sharing.

    Stunning

    What a write!
When I saw the picture I knew what I'd say.
    When Princess Diana was buried
She could have had diamonds that cost a million dollars in her hair
all the riches of the land
Instead softly wrapped in her hands
was a trinket that probably cost 89 cents
It was a rosary given to her
    by Mother Tereasa
who had died three weeks earlier
This beaded plastic and cheap-wired steel
had more value that Crown Jewels
Both were on the same journey
Helping others is the greatest jewel of all! -c

    Beliefs

Seems some can hold onto them & some cannot. I am reminded of the Sepirohtic tre of life as this is one very deep write. Excellent work indeed.
