I've always noticed the red door.
It stands out all the more after a snow storm.
There is evidence of life's winter blizzards in my hair;
like sub-zero temperatures that frostbite warm smiles.
I've grown accustomed to aging gracefully,
aching in that same way anticipates my better moods.
I used to deplore January because of its cold existence.
I now ice-skate the day away, and sculpt eagles on a whim.
There is a tender release in the vapor that is my breath.
Time has been, and is merciful.
As long as I am living, I must live!

(((something about the mention of a red door that brings warmth- heat... and i cannot help but think of chocolate chip cookies
...i loved the winter blizzards in hair with the contrast of frostbitten warm smiles... beautifully and secretly clever)))
I've grown accustomed to aging gracefully,
aching in that same way anticipates my better moods.
I used to deplore January because of its cold existence.
I now ice-skate the day away, and sculpt eagles on a whim.
(((such an interesting way to use the aching and better moods thought...reminds me of how weather makes or breaks our bones and/or how our bones determine the weather. i loved the idea of total acceptance of what we cannot change- like making lemonade out of lemons... sure it is easy to say but so hard to actually do))
There is a tender release in the vapor that is my breath.
Time has been, and is merciful.
As long as I am living, I must live!
(((all i smell is eucalyptus...i like that with the vapor line - whether intended or not- i went to my winter memory of vicks vapor rub...reminds me of how when i couldnt breathe all of a sudden there was air and it came abundant, surprising and oh so welcoming...and yes we must live... I liked the idea behind the last line but I think ending this poem with time has been, and is merciful is so much more powerful.. the last line is felt throughout the entire poem, i think.
this was a beautiful write, thank you so much for entering it in our contest!

and i have thought to myself as i age...how in youth i loved all the seasons, yes even winter...though with age i have dimmed to an idle of such whimmsical times, longed for once again...
this brings to light... the possibilities whith such delight... to live my youthful heart...
love this renee

Renee, My Beautiful Renee,
You give me renewed hope in every day. I struggle with the road blocks life gives.. and often, let them detour me. I have tried to start this year with a reminder to myself of all my blessings (like you) and that today is the only day to live for.. tomorrow, may not even exist.
You are an Angel.. and your words warm all the cold frostbitten places in my soul.
I love you,
Criss
