the poet converses with a five year old (or so she thinks)

halfway through the english class
i see her sprawled on desk
and i suddenly know she's playing dead

"hi" i say
she looks up but does not reply
"well, i know you're playing dead - wake up now and go have your cereal" (i guess i'm being my own mother now)
stop acting like my mom and stop treating me like a child
"how can i, if you still are one?"
i just got my record books today, for your information
"whose?"
mine, duh
"you always played with your brother's"
so what? now i have mine

i laughed

now why the hell are you laughing?
"you make me; with those silly little jokes of yours"

fuck off
she says

and i realize how old
the innocent young girl on my mother's refrigerator
had grown

Author notes

i don't even know whether this came out right. we got our record books today, jan 8th. and well. i was just amazed at how i'm in 9th already and well, how i still thought i was a 5 year old or something. and well, lol i did sound like my own mom when i did that.

this is a very special day for me. we got records. wow.

- i think this isn't understandable. i don't care though. but it'd be great if i could make it better. and if you could help me with it.

Yes, this did come out right--and it took me back to times in my life that I looked forward to while I was growing up. I think that, no matter where we are from or what part of the world we grew up in, there are common denominators between us, and the milestones of growing up are things we all share.

I loved this, and I thank you for sharing that special milestone in your life with me in poetry.

actually, i did get what was happening in the poem -- you are growing up and becoming your own, strong guidance.

congratulations on your records, luvvy -- this is unique, i enjoyed...
