Twas a nightmare 'fore Christmas
Only one in the house
Brave enough to wake up
When still sleeps the mouse.
Procrastination has served her
Well-deserved just desserts
Mom forgot to go shopping
Now she readies for the worst.
Before six she set it
To wake up in time
Speed race to the store
Just to stand in a line.
These ladies in waiting
Are not what you think.
No wedding bell thoughts
Just nerves on the brink.
Suited up with her purse
Strapped tied to her back
Fighting back soccer moms
At the clearance sale rack.
Six bills in her hand
Her IRS check
AKA the solution
To economical wreck.
That's still not enough
For Playstation III
She settles instead
For the less pricey Wii.
Steel cage and a frame
Two wheels work at best
Races to electronics
To beat out the rest.
On Dolce Gabbana
On Dooney and Burke
Prada lost out to Prancer
He makes a much better purse.
Dragged down and dog tired
Wheeling up to the front
Stands herself in a line
Fully sated from hunt.
Past post-traumatic battle
Wally's favorite foreigner says
Bienvenido a WalMart!

This isn't something I'd usually read, but I love the humour in it and the reference to the classic Christmas songs, mocking them rather with the realit of the festive season. And excellent poem!!
