At the bench at midnight

11.55pm

In my hand I hold a letter,
marked with words I know off by heart,
telling me to meet you here,
at the bench which was our start.

11.56pm

I know I shouldn't be here,
I shouldn't have agreed to this,
but the chance to see you one more time
was a chance I couldn't miss.

11.57pm

Just like in a fairytale,
midnight was the chosen time
and as the minutes tick by,
I'm waiting for the church bell chime.

11.58pm

My heart begins to fasten,
memories fill my mind.
My eyes scan the darkness
for a movement of any kind.

11.59pm

My eyes look at the letter one last time
and my hands are shaking slightly,
and in the distance I begin to hear
church-bells chiming quietly.

12.00am

So as you asked, here I am,
at the bench at midnight,
and in the distance I can see,
your shadow in the moonlight.

  • Good dramatic story line, well written. Such a universal connection to the theme.
