Nabta and I , The Land of Time and Sand

Missing image

My journey has been long,

a millennium before the Druids
raised their standing stones,
Nabta's monoliths did by solstice shine.

In Egypt's Southern desert vast,
upon the shore of a shallow lee,

these stones were conjured upright

transitting the ascent of sun and stars.

At opposing ends, of the circle of stone
two casting pillars stand, windows in time.

Marking the day the sun stands still,
heralding the rains that are to come.

Two more windows also attend,
to trace the axis of the sky.
Four cardinal points are measured here
at the Standing stones of Nabta.

This ancient compass of stone and sand
connects all life for the desert bands.
Woven in the fabric of the night sky
represents all life's connectivity.

And who am I you may well ask.
Who guides the passages of the sun.
Who sets the celestial meridian,
and guides the caravans lonely pass.

Answer I to many names,
the first I recall is Seshesh.
Divine embodiment of the Milky Way.
Call me then Nut the rhythm of the universe.

You may call me Neit. the Night Sky.
I protect the world from chaos and anarchy
For I am daughter of Shu and Tefnut
Of air and water born was I.

Together with my consort Geb,
form the embodiment sacred geometry.
The earth and sky separate and yet,
together the universes cadence set.

When my Consort Geb the Earth
and I the Sky meet in joyous unity.
Our rhythmic congress grants the birth,
of our glorious son, the God Sun Ra.

I am Kau the great mother of all,

whose breasts brought forth the Milky Way.

The celestial river if the sky,

the stars I swallow at first light.

No temples or tombs,

for me will you find

for Geb and I

are earth and sky

A very brilliant write in my opinion. Loved the fact that you chose to write of something more unusual and with such feeling to wards the ancient ways of the desert and it's beliefs. Sheila

I love it! It has a more peaceful feel then the original, however the original was powerful and wonderful also!
This one made me smile with peace as I read about the Gods and Goddesses.

This is fascinating - so compelling to read about these ancient compasses within the context of the names from Egyptian mythology!
