After The Poem

After the poem has been written, and revised,
after the tears have reflected a pitiful face,
what is left to do?

Neither the vent, nor scorn, or vengeful words,
will make the sun shine, the wind blow,
the dead rise.

No friend can console, nor Bible barter
the suffering for a smile. An indolent fire,
burning your chest, your throat, your mind.

And we walk unknowing, that we are dieing,
within ourselves, lightless, and writing.

Our souls have aged, our hearts have ceased,
and the damn pen continues.

I think your last sentence speaks for everyone on this site or that writes at all... the heartache forever bleeds through the pen. One of my favorites you've written.

Ahh yes, the pen continues.. and at time it seems to make no difference, yet it has it's own sense of healing.

    Great write!!

    I really like this

It reminds me of a P. Neruda poem. Actually the poem "I can write the saddest things tonight" because you talk about writing as if it's a curse but yet you are writing still, very ironic which makes this a bangin entry for the contest. Your are spliing over with creativity dude I see a second book in your future (if not already)!!!

  • and the brief encounters from which you never mention, sees us soon, sleeping with those words of hope, escaping into next days mention. Poetry has always been assessed by those other than the poet, in otherwords, ageless, like me,
