Rules once written
seem long ago forgotten,
enlaced with arsenic;
emptying me hollow.
Only engaged in this charade
long as the chips remain in play;
pawns have been chosen,
unaware of impending danger.
Life becomes the game board
acted out by characters;
risk becomes obsolete,
excluded in the script.
Curtain closes,
unweaving the spell,
time becomes a moment,
when all most fall.
Author notes
8. Life is like a hand of cards. You have to play the hand you're dealt, you can't win by folding, and sometimes you must take chances in order to win. ~Mike Conner
