Through Your Eyes

And it's all I know to do,
to wake up thankful for your life,
and your presence next to me;
in an imperfect world,
with an imperfect heart,
you make me see beauty
where none could be found before.

It has gotten easier
to appreciate my reflection,
when it's you standing next to me.
I wouldn't know love without you,
not for the life of me;
but it's through your voice
and your eyes
that I see.

This embittered soul
learns daily to appreciate
what she has,
more than she ever hoped for;
and what she has to give,
though it doesn't seem enough
in retrospection.

I know I can't say that I know
where this comes from;
except I know in my heart,
there is only you
and even when I tire of myself,
I live to see you happy.

I know not what love is,
except by loving you;
and the only love to reach me
is through your eyes-

maybe one day I will learn,
and it will be complete.

Author notes

I was listening to the song while writing this, and it is from the prompt of loving someone when you can't love yourself, which sadly I know completely.

Please tell me what you think

    I understand this completely. It's really a rather confusing but liberating process. I just felt there could have been more imagery and metaphor, it seems more like thoughts. Thanks for entering

    I know what you mean by loving someone when you can't love yourself. I think we are just a little too critical of ourselves. I have a hard time finding the beauty in myself.

      Yeah, it is hard sometimes. There's days that everything seems okay and I'm fine with myself, and one thing goes wrong, and I'm mentally beating myself up for it. But I'm learning to like my self.
