Chloe

Barely tasting a simple breath,
gone is she now from this life.
Taken by this tyrant, Death,
  leaving behind grief’s sharp knife.

Snapping loud, like lightning’s thunder,
the Crime enacted, mocking this place.
A mother’s heart is torn asunder,
longing the wonder of a daughter’s face.

Cold arms wanting a warmth so special.
Sorrow stays and simply reminds
how she can break the strongest metal,
      breathing seems so unkind.

Allow for them a little ease,
  while little one patiently waits.
They will see her on shores of peace,
  just within eternal gates.

Author notes

“While the child was alive, I fasted and wept; for I said, ‘Who can tell whether the LORD will be gracious to me, that the child may live?’ But now he is dead; why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.”—2 Samuel 12:22-23 (David is speaking, talking about the death of his infant son.)

You have touched my heart deeply with this amazing poem. Thank you so much for this. I shall print it and when I make Chloe's scrapbook it will go inside it. Then one day when my daughter has healed enough, she will want to read it. God bless you dear.
