Four AM and the alarm goes off.
Open one eye, he curses under his breath.
Slowly gets up, turns off the alarm
he drag himself to the bathroom.
Relieve the stress
and cleans up.
Go back to the room,
pause;
"It's still dark out"
Get dressed, double check
pockets, and dresser drawers.
Shiver; it's incredibly
cold this morning.
Put on a sweater,
get a bottle of water.
Take a deep breath
It's Four-thirty AM.
Lets stop time for a second,
when thoughts of her
coming flooding into my mind.
Step outside, and walk
towards the car.
Her car. Her old car.
he sits down, put down the water bottle.
Put the key in the ignition,
turn it;
the car does not start.
Try again. Pause.
There we go. Pick a radio station.
Time to go to work.
He reaches into his pocket
at a stop light,
and his heart stops pounding;
that lighter.
The engraved lighter she gave
him for a birthday present.
A car honks behind him.
Lets stop time for a second,
when thoughts of her kiss
clouds his ability to move.
Take a deep breath,
its five AM.
Park the car, and head to
the job site.
"Good lord, its freezing out here"
It's still dark, and the soft hum of
the generator is ringing in his ears.
Flood lights fill the floor,
light reflecting off every wall,
window,
door,
shutter,
anything.
He looks out towards LA,
sighs and gets to work.
Lets stop time for a second,
when thoughts of her touch
stop me from thinking straight.
Take a deep breath
It's noon.
He thinks to himself;
"The morning went by quick"
Lunch time.
Finally a break.
Sit down on a bucket, open his lunch
the boss calls his name
he needs help.
Puts down his lunch
to help the boss.
Three hours later
he can finally eat, but
only for a few minutes.
Lets stop for a second,
when thoughts of her laughter
seduce him from work
Take a deep breath,
its three PM
only a few more hours.
He reaches into his pocket
and pulls out the lighter
he sighs, and pockets it.
Only a few more hours,
time to go back to work.
Two hours pass, and I hear my
name being yelled across the way;
"Peter!"
I respond;
"Ya, boss?"
"It's time to go home"
I don't answer, I just clean up
I rush to my car,
pull out a joint,
reach into my pocket
and I feel the cold steel.
I freeze.
"Christ...I miss you"
Light the joint, and
speed off.
Lets stop time for a second,
when thoughts of making love to her
put me in risk of crashing
Take a deep breath;
its five fourty-six in the evening.
I pull up to my house,
park,
get out,
and stop.
I look down the street,
both ways,
and I head for the door.
Slowly, I open it.
My heart sinks;
no one is here.
I drag my feet to my
room.
Shut the door, and slump
in my chair.
I pull out the silver
engraved lighter,
and I sigh.
Lets stop time for a second.
when thoughts of her leaving,
erupts through my tears.
Lets just stop
for one second.
That lighter is the closest thing
I have to holding you.
Take a deep breath,
Tomorrow is another big day.
Please tell me what you think

I'm...so sorry. You've made me cry, This one was amazing. Im so glad...but sad. I read this poem and feel love but total heartache... But memories are all we have for now, I'll be back in April.
I dont know if I can say this here...but you're the best i've ever had.
Love always,
Wendy, to her Pan.
If it's a boy, His name will be Peter.
