1. promises that mean nothing.
your promises rang in detached syllables, playing over and over in my head.
hollow like bird feathers but still a polar opposite because they always sank to the bottom of the bottle, the ocean, anything in liquid form that can be ingested by my always open palms and pores.
you promised to love me, but like everything you touched I fell apart as well
bells chime but so does your voice and I never understood how something so pure can ever compare to you. you were an imitation of everything I held cherished;
cherries and raspberries both simulated my heart. and you hated anything that reminded you of the color of blood.
.
2. colors that mean everything.
I want to surrender to your color.
pale white never stood out enough in the winter, I could melt into snow and no one would notice. I want to be beautiful, but those who live in shades and shadows never get too far.
hiding under covers was never the answer, but the easiest way to procrastinate the feeling of coming undone. If I was made from buttons, zippers and stitches every single thread would be breaking from the weight of your cream-colored palms.
everything about you was different from me, and when they say opposites attract they don’t lie. but nothing was ever mentioned about opposites being connected forever. you had emerald eyes, and poppy lips and chocolate hair while I was black, white and gray when the shades overlapped.
.
3. absolutely no meaning.
I set out to lose myself in everything that you hated, as a final goodbye of sorts.
screaming at the top of my lungs I cannot remember why I’m standing out here in the first place; until I look around me and see all the broken green and clear glass all over the floor. and then I remember how I got here and how you tore me and broke me in so many little pieces that I had to go smash so many bottles just to feel like I belonged,
somewhere.
ashtrays litter the floor where some environmentalist tried to clean up after me. I stopped caring about the planet I live on, I stopped loving it because you were my world and you took all my senses and ran.
I have nothing except words left.
