She'd never understood why,
Why she had been chosen.
Why was she one out of ten?
How could anyone love her now?
Crying softly on the inside,
She ignores the stares and whispers.
She'd been strong when her parents
Had cried and held her close.
She'd not shed a tear for her life,
A life that would end soon.
When her hair fell out,
When agony gripped her small body,
She'd stayed strong. She looked
At her parent's faces,
Their tear-stained cheeks,
And known she had to be brave.
Smiling and laughing, making it better,
Better for the people that loved her.
None of that matters now.
She's alone, her friends forgotten.
No one will hold her hand,
Smile in return to her.
They know she's sick,
Know she's dying and don't care.
They are afraid. She's terrified.
How could they possibly love a girl
Without hair, time, or friends?
Alone she sits, life fading away.
Cancer claiming her body;
Loneliness claiming her soul.

My goodness I wanted to snatch that little girl up and hug her!
You painted a very touching piece with your pen.
Good Luck in the contest!
