stairwell stories
told by fire escapes
traipse
down a silent city street
wait for heat of day
stay
wait for light
wait for break
second chances
tempt a box of dreams
children laugh
yellowed pages
turn, the corner
glance
the measure full
a sleeping star
an alarm set for
then
a back
drawn with maps
directions long
ago gone
the way of yet
and dead set
on never
singing the song
Author notes
"almost alex"
a meditation on being stuck halfway in and halfway out of the illusion of time
