Dare I write you a love poem for your Birthday?
For a man to express love to a woman bound
Shall not set her free
Ah but romantic love is not the foundation I lay
For a man such as me does not express or expound
For it the weakest of the three
The love between two friends pastes as clay
Joining man and woman in a close bound
Is strong as two walk together and agree
But divine love is what I wish to convey
In our very souls that love is found
Which both binds and sets us free
How I love you my friend, my sister soul
of breath divine
Dare I speak of your appearance on your Birthday?
For I have seen images of you young and older
And am amazed how your beauty's grown with age
I have seen you exposed on the bed on which you lay
Felt the shame and seen the scars as brother beholder
Experienced your hurt, your joy, your sorrow, your rage
As you struggle with faith and trust each new day
I watched you move as the wind and stand firm as a boulder
Your insight and wisdom of experience is greater than a sage
Better than a painted playboy centerfold on display
Is your inner and outer beauty exposed much bolder
Without shame or regret dancing on the world's stage
How I love you my beautiful, my exposed soul
of grace divine
