Ending Hatred

My eyes are clouded because they can’t bear to see,
drowning in tears at the lifeless children on the street.
The children falling don’t know how to be hopeful anymore
born into a cycle of trying to outlive a never ending war.

Watching their parents fall apart is all they know that’s wrong
Learning to feel hatred for the loss of their families being strong
Feeling the heat of a stray bullet pass as it  pierces the beating heart of a loved one
A childhood innocence disappears as another generation of hate is begun

Promises of revenge are born as a child stands in the wreckage stunned
Kinder for the fires in her heart as her loss makes her one of the shunned
On one side of a dividing border, looking out at the people that just destroyed her world
An eleven year old peer exploded into the crowd making her no ones little girl.

Too many others won’t walk away again crippled by bombs buried in the sand.
A toddler’s legs blown away by the wrong move- she crawled but never to stand.
The dying hope of the future is imprisoned within a dictatorship of hate.
Guns in the hands of children who might never get to grow up with what they face .

A child who dares to wonder ‘why they can fight the way they do’ is forced into silence
Asking why the mothers’ cries don’t shine on devastating truths and end the violence
Nostalgic memories full of laughter only remind a father’s daughter of all she lost
Knowing he died to protect her freedom  intensifies her pain enough to hate the cause

Parents bestow the burdens upon their children that stole away their own tomorrow.
Historical hatreds passed down by generations leave the children of today in sorrow.
A life for a life to numb the pain of not being one of the fallen are  justifications.
Collapsing among themselves in the elaborate lies of their leaders are two falling nations.

Betraying the unspoken vows to protect their peoples by unleashing waves of hate.
Dying for ‘stolen’ lands ebullient power driven officials tell them to liberate.
A line that exists in separate visions of what is believed to be destiny.
Lines that are derailed by grief and anguish unite the victims for eternity.

An ancient land belonging to the two peoples who call it home.
Trying to rebirth  peoples whose claims dates back to catacombs.
Trying not to take everything away from the children of those who never left.
Two peoples who struggle with sharing the land because to them that’s theft.

Hate is making their blindness an epidemic unable to see past races.
Pointing fingers and passing each other the blame while tears stain faces.
I can feel the raw grief in the air breaking  hearts,
not differentiating on the line that drives them apart.

I don’t see color  or who acted in particular fights ‘cause it shouldn’t matter.
People are hurting because of race and its divisions- that’s even sadder.
My eyesight isn’t mediocre I’ve chosen to be blind.
Lets end the hatred with cycles of peace- its about time.

Congrats on the silver. It is filled with emotion and feeling. A somber write that makes us think ... It leaves me feeling sad and almost hopeless ... wanting peace too and yet seeing wars all around. Thank you for entering

    I'd like to see

you read a lot of poetry by writers who use a lot of rhyme and rhythm-Rudyard Kipling, Robert Service, Alfred Noyes-etc. and come back with a style that knocks our socks off. I think you can do it. You have the heart and soul of a poet; let's work on the brain.

It's all very well mouthing platitudes about peace. However, the fact is that a powerful army is murdering innocent women and children by the score and the West is allowing them to do it. Personally, since the Israelis only understand force, I believe an all-out international bombing and invasion of Tel Aviv might solve the situation.

The fact is there are two sides to every story. Mouthing about peace? I'm not pro any side- I'm only pro peace. The Palestinians need to get leadership and stop sending suicide bombers in- then again they have nothing and are in refugee camps so its not that easy. Israel needs to control its soldiers and find a different tactic but then again with rockets flying into their country constantly they are pretty terrified. What is going on right now is awful and really sad- there is still a nother story but I don't condone Hamas's rockets either- who the people of Palestine are starting to condemn finally for just creating more bloodshed. I hope Palestinians can step up and give power to the people and stop their side in the war and I hope the Israeli people will too.

Solve the situation for whom? More hate more violence? My poem's point is that we need peace because all we are doing by debating and spreading hate is crippling my generation when it inherits the world- teaching children that all that is right is to hate and to kill.

The pathetic little whizzbangs Hamas sends into Israel do virtually no damage. 7 Israelis have been killed in the last month (3 by Israel soldiers' own guns, so there is SOME justice in the world). By comparison, the Israeli Armed Forces (laughingly called Israeli Defence Force, what a sick joke) have slaughtered nearly 900, including over 250 little children.

The Palestinians HAVE democratically elected leaders. Unfortunately the Israelis won't talk to them and prefer to try and kill them.

Putting it bluntly, there are NOT 2 sides. Except: decency versus Nazi-style brutality.

    Yeah.

You're going in the right direction for sure. "Promises of revenge are born as a child stands in the wreckage stunned" is a most powerful line. I'm looking forward to seeing it smoothed out.

There are two sides to every story- I think that both sides have a lot to answer for. Both sides are hurting. I am not on either side- I am pro peace and sadly t hey aren't really heading there now

There are two sides to every story.

In this story there is an violent jailer and an innocent prisoner who is being starved and tormented. Yes, he tries to fight back. You would too.
