Water lapping
like a lustful lover
along its roughwood flank.
Sails flapping
their Gregorian gossip
toward the distant bank.
Gilded grandeur
soothes tidal tedium;
their ancestors to thank.

I agree with Bosiar about the potential for a better shade of shine on the trophy. Great material for one of those prewrite contests for poems that didn't garner gold. Two words stand out in every verse: roughwood flank, Gregorian gossip and tidal tedium... very nicely done!

My this is a grand set of words you have set against this picture. I don't know who won the upper prizes, but they must be doozies. I'm impressed as this deviates from the ones you and I have shared in your museum of mind thought thus far. RC

Nice write pp. Pretty exquisite imagery. I got hooked up in the piece that I didn't even realized it rhymed, not till after I read other comments (a bit slow!).
Best wishes in the contest
