Yummy Gummy Wumpkins

Yummy Gummy Wumpkins sat upon a shelf
pondering unto himself the life of yonder elf
He wondered if he spoke to him an answer would come forth
or if it would send the elf running for the north.

Day in and out he debated, first one way then t'other
he felt akin to this wee lad as if he were a brother
He saw the sadness of solitude weighed heavy on the mind
and wished to lighten the burden, but the words he could not find.

Then suddenly he heard the elf, as he spoke words under his breath
of a meal he was planning that might mean the Yummy's death!
He spoke right up with no further thought and said to yon young sir
"Before you add me to that pot and give it a big stir..."

The elf was greatly startled and more than a little distressed
to get his mind around this, you could see he did his best.
He shook head and made his ears wiggle as he tried to reason it out
but of his own sanity he was no longer without doubt!

Yummy strove on to ease his mind, perhaps to make things better
"I assure you sir, your still quite sane, your hearing keen to the letter!
I speak with you as I have oft to wont, that we might chat and learn
For I am quite unusual as you might, by now, discern!"

The elf sat down slowly in the chair, with Yummy in his hands
and waited for the further speech, as propriety still demands.
"I have a soul and hence a mind, I am a prince once cursed.
I have tried to find a way to speak and many a thought rehearsed.

But then I found my time was lost, and you meant me for your meal
I spoke up quick and hoped that we might make a deal!"
The elf finally found his tongue at last and they spoke well through the night
The elf vowed they would be friends and to uncurse Yummy if he might!

And so Yummy was spared the crockery pot and eventually the elf's big belly
and they shared a friendship full of love and laughter with butter and jelly.
They spent many years and adventures together, but that is another tale
Perhaps someday I shall share it with you, as we toast o'er a pint of ale!

Author notes

ah yes this was yet another fun one dedicated to Onionducks, my challenger of difficult titles, or so she believes, hehe. So, have I fulfilled this title request? if so, yours is....hmmm....
Dickie Doodle and his doodled noodle! Any one else wishing to challenge me, feel free, I love to say I can write on any subject or title, although granted some are easier than others, especially as I prefer to write humor!

I plan to revise this poem: please leave constructive criticism!

Nicely done! That made me grin muchness! In places I lost the rythmn of it.. though I think that's more due to the fact the my brain is made of cotton at the moment.
I shall go get started on that interesting challenge...
Kudos to you for that write!
