It's hardly snowing on Christmas anymore,
but when we are lucky, it will freeze.
Ice skates are taken from the attic floor,
we waggle, wobble in icy wind's roar.
Too soon, too soon, the kids step on the ice
and some of them are going through.
So stupid, stupid, not to listen to advice
and sometimes they're paying the death price.
In my house, all the stoves are burning,
no central heating, no, just honest wood.
The glow of fire, always makes me yearning
to summer time, when colors are returning.
We don't give gifts, on this here Christmas day,
but slowly the habit creeps in from the States.
The stores are greedy, in a grabbing money way,
but in all churches, there's no difference in pray.
Vrolijk Kerstfeest, Merry Christmas is the wish of all
and people hug and kiss each other under mistletoe.
Families gather, some alone, trees are standing tall,
That's the way we do our Christmas, in my country small.
but when we are lucky, it will freeze.

Author notes
The three pictures are made last summer in the North of my country, in a little village on its 750 years anniversary. The locals had 'made' ice skating scenes in the canal and though it was made out of plastics and dolls, it looked very realistic.

This I do have to say is one of my favorite pieces that have been entered in the contest and is going to be in the finalist list thats for sure, the border you chose with this piece is amazing and it does look very real. I do have a suggestion tho and I do hope that it does not offend you in any way as your poem was at the upmost perfect in every way, but it maybe easier if it were center alined as some of the words blended in with the border and had to be highlighted. By no means am i putting your poem down as I stated I love it and its in the running I am just making a mere suggestion and hope that it doesnt offend you. I thank you for taking the time to enter and would love to wish you the very best of luck in the contest.......

Thanks for the comment. Strange that you see the words blend into the border, because it doesn't at my 17" screen at all. But at your request I'm going to center it.
