Shelve upon shelve of anxious books
Begging to be read
And their adventures to unfold
For mottos to be spread
Some of the books are outdated
And wear a layer of dust
Like an unused bike no longer loved
Left in the rain to rust
Popularity has changed, it's all about blood and gore
It's no longer about a good plot
So the classic and genius novels
Are left on the shelf to rot
The librarian loves and cares
Before she goes home each night
She strokes their spines, and tells them soon...
Things will change, it'll be alright
The chairs sit round their tables
Laughing at the hopeful books
Who believe that their genres will return
Readers will tire of car chases and crooks
Hold on you darling books
Poetry and romance will return
Despite special effects, surround sound, widescreen
For pages, and book marks, they will once again yearn

Great job on this piece. It flowed so well, and is a great tribute to literature. Good luck in the contest, you have a very good chance of winning

Thanks
Thank you. I've only been on here a short while so it would be a complete honour to win a competition. But it's just nice to know my poetry is appreciated so thanks so much.
