the stage lit up so bright
and people swarming in
from the cold and lonely night.
An old man sits down beside me,
he smiles and settles back
in that silent understanding
that we today so often lack.
For we're all here for the music,
I realize right then
and as the lights go down
I glimpse something beyond my ken.
The singers take their places
with excitement in their eyes
and as they lift their voices
so our collective hearts arise.
Every man and woman present
can hear the beauty of their voice
they were many now are one,
as they stand there all rejoice.
And I wonder as I listen
that it seems so easy for us now
to come together and be happy
outside of here though we know how.
But while I'm here and listening
I can enjoy one thing I see
these many youths may come to know
true peace and unity.
For if it is possible
in this small, cramped, musty place
then I have hope that one day soon
true peace we will embrace.
Author notes
I really wanted to enter this contest but I wasn't sure what exactly to write about so I sat here for somewhere around an hour staring at that horrible evil blank page. Then I just started writing and this is what I got. When you see something like this its really just an awesome feeling. And its definitely a feeling and understanding that can reach accross the generations. I think everyone needs to witness something like this. Anyways im rambling now, enjoy!!
