Remember as outlaws we needed an edge
So we were keeping our backs to the sun.
We were living the dream of bygone days
When gunfighters lived by the gun.
But old man river rolled up our time
And he eroded our edges away.
We were golden then and time was our friend
And the speed of our hands held sway.
Now life is the lawman that faces us down
And the edge we once had has now gone.
How I long for a time when a small world was mine
In the days when we basked in the sun.
The days then were long and adventures like songs
Played out through the hours that we owned
Now the days fly on past and routine goes fast
Yet the hours crawl on by oh so slow.
Now we feel those chains that bind us to life
And remember the times we were free.
They were forging right there but we didn't care
When we sang in our chains like the sea.

Some of my favorite things are good spelling, grammar and punctuation. I am also fond of a story line I can follow. One with a logical flow. Some of your rhymes, don’t rhyme but in general the poem is so good, one hardly notices. Thank you for entering my contest.

Atmospheric
Takes me right back to the Saturday matinee at the 'Pictures'. Very discriptive and makes one think of times past and magical dreams of youth. Days do fly and hours crawl, how true.

Oh. This is an interesting poem that you have going on in here. It makes me think of old western movies and guys that sleep in sleeping backs on the hard ground. And having to check your shoes for scorpions! LOL You did a good job of expressing yourself here.
