Light snow gently descends,
memories from way back when
suddenly spring to life,
as if it had never passed on by
remembering your wife,
my mother, to the casual reader,
these were financial hard times,
mashed potatoes, with beef and barley soup,
but I secretly didn't mind,
the simple tastes of childhood,
like straws of flavored sugars,
rotten to the teeth,
so sickly sweet,
rough housing occurred, upstairs,
out of sight, but not out of mind
rubber band wars, with paperclips,
if one didn't duck out of the way,
it was very cruel to be hit,
a stinging stab, launching punches,
an older brother just laughing away ,
it all comes back so vividly,
staring out a frosty window,
on another wintry day...

oh I forgot to say how much I love the first two lines.
Light snow gently descends,
memories from way back when

Oh the memories this brings back, my older brother would laugh after chasing me with a snake.
Thank you for sharing your memories, I enjoyed the read very much.
Well Done. -
This does paint a vivid picture of childhood with its mention of the sugary Pixiestix, the simple savoury meals prepared for us and "roughhousing" which we actually had a designated night of the week to do with Dad (Tuesdays) which just makes me smile, smile to think of again. Thank you.
