"We like to think that the deeds of great men are what drive this world, but that day is long past. Now, nearly everything is governed by people with calculators and spreadsheets, employee handbooks and corny motivational posters. The weak have inherited the earth."
- The Book of the Watcher, Chapter 1, Verses 8-10
The fear of causing offense blocks a mind
Once free to bring to light whatever thought
Could possibly a twisted hope unwind:
This after all the battles that we've fought.
It does seem rather silly, after all,
To coat intentions good in sick veneer,
Manipulate well wishes, try to call
False perpetrators out with vicious sneers.
No criminal the one who's brave enough
To find a meet escape from media gloss,
Reality TV is not so tough:
We will awaken from that awful dross,
For wiser fools have ruled this ancient earth,
And ignorance shall one day be in dearth.

i'm not intimately familiar with the sonnet's form, but i can see it taking shape under your hands. i applaud you for your efforts in that regard. i, for one, lack the discipline and patience for poetic "forms". a dearth of ignorance? ha! perhaps when all of mankind has reached extinction. someone will always be ignorant of something. we can't know it all! it IS interesting to think about the gradual change in power over the centuries. now, a lot of power rests with the "intellecually gifted". i wonder how long that will last. or will we revert to some of our more "primitive" definitions of power?
a very curious write. thought-provoking. -
