For no apparent reason we walked in the rain,
But I was with you, so we both were insane.
The lighting was dim and the wind really blew,
At least that’s my excuse to move closer to you.
So we walked and we talked as we weathered the storm,
My arm wrapped around you, “so you would stay warm.”
Before you went home, you asked for a story,
So I sat on the curb, hoping not to be corny.
In the tale I could wish for three things I desired,
I then wished for two that I did not require.
And just like that, I came to the last of my wishes,
I took a deep breath and wished for hurricane kisses.
But then I messed up, creating a storm,
And no kisses could follow what I had reformed.
I tried to find others, I started to date,
And avoided you, for I was who you must hate.
I let you go, and the point of this is,
That I had forgotten of our hurricane kisses.
I tried to give my heart but always lost track,
I guess I can’t give what I never got back.
It was then that I feared that you’d want to have space,
And if I tried for you now you’d laugh in my face.
After thinking this over, week after week,
I gave into the thoughts, and started to speak.
To the girl who would certainly look on with a frown,
But I still had to try for the girl I’d let down.
So I gave it a shot, though it wasn’t my business,
For that’s when I remembered the hurricane kisses.
And now we’re together, I’m glad that I tried,
The storm I created, at last it subsides.
But now I must leave, I’m changing my school,
I waited so long, I feel like a fool.
For though we’re together, physically we’re apart,
And it hurts me to be so far from my heart.
But things are still great, regrets I have not,
Though the thing that I miss is not what I thought.
For it’s not the rain or the kiss, what I truly miss is,
The girl who I shared the hurricane kisses.
So now things are fixed, at last we’re together,
And I promise to hold you, through good and bad weather.

I loved this. You had a great sense of humor about the situation in the beginning, to budding romance in the middle, to a tearful goodbye at the end; and all the while keeping up the metaphor of the storm, right up until the last line. Great write and good luck in the contest!
