Sunshine Sifts Through The Window

Sunshine sifts through the window
Shooting between curtains to pierce the shadows
A perfect ray to illuminate a perfect morning
How dare it?

A dawn chorus sings with honey-coated sounds
Beautiful birds fly past the window
Singing sweet songs of a perfect tomorrow
How dare they?

The grass is green as always
The flowers in full bloom
And the clouds make pleasing patterns for the eye
How dare they?

A man walks whistling down the street
With his child cradled lovingly in his arms
Not a care in the world have they
How dare he?

When I have barely slept this past two nights
Haunted by dreams of a certain someone
To be chilled when I wake by her absence
While the sun shines and the birds sing and the happy family plays

As if the world hadn't stopped

Woow. That's very intense, yeah. I can completely feel/visualise/imagine/etc. everything you're saying... yeah. That's fantastic.

Wow. This is an amazing piece. That last line is haunting, and the repetition of the "how dare [it]" is extremely powerful, especially in that first stanza where you lull the reader into a beautiful morning, and then stab them with that line. Each stanza after carries that emotion through and builds it up to the breaking of the repetition in the last stanza, and explanation of the pain. Wonderfully done, your imagery and description are spectacular, and I very much enjoyed reading this.

Thanks for entering and good luck in the contest,
