Gentle daybreak

Darkness touches,
turning sharp shadow edges
to soft watercolor paints.
I hear leaves rustle
and the murmur of abating rain
in nature’s voice,
the language of poetry.

With the sudden silence
hovering night scatters over the skies.
It talks to me and I answer
with the only language I know,
my words slide your way,
like a crystal indigo river,
I kiss the stones and sand
of your everlasting shores.

Before the breeze turns to wind,
I am told of the secret of birds.
Their gently attuned voices
carry between the branches of wet bushes
while a grey, late summer day waits
for the red dragon to turn the light on,
to set its eternal sconce ablaze
against the walls of a cerulean sky.

My skin shivers
of wonder,
of love.

I kiss the stones and sand
    of your everlasting shores.

This poem is a tapestry of rich imagery and is full of strong metaphors that give it strength and depth. Your poetry never ceases to amaze me. Congratulations on the trophy.

    If dawn

is awakening, then day should be life, but it is love that nurtures both dawn and day! Best to you. Frans
