past last year imagining
subtleties in the hands of a lover
a soft whittled tune on my guitar
and the banjo of a new year
sparkling and bright
I found a passion in the movement of words
and learned to type like a poet
that was my year
as my niece turned her years
and began to talk in interesting sentences
and I loved the break of Christmas
the taste of honeyed ham and cider
the delicate touch of my casual lover
and the trials of a new season.
Author notes
all in all it was a good year.
