Passage

Another natal date soon to come and go
Time can pass quickly even when you’re
not having fun

Reminiscing and looking up old friends
and lovers who’ve moved on
Trying to rekindle a sense of youth

Why would I ever want to do that?
I wasted so much of my early life
wandering in ignorance

Am I seeking to gain perspective?
My life is far better now
having learned to be selective

I’ve finally read the Manual
and am following its guide
Wisdom gained by many beatings

I bear the bruises of futility
and lack of integrity
Following one’s conscience is a blessing

My hair’s approaching salt and pepper stage
with that gift hopefully I’ll become a sage
Wiser and more mellow with age

    Amen!

this is quite nice! artfully said and w/ a great message. why chase the past...out of which we've come? no! we only use its lessons to help us become more serious about where we're going. to grow is a joy and gift. to go back is almost blasphemous itself. this poem reminded me of a particular sentiment expressed in a very good c.s. lewis book!

    • Thanks

for your read & kind comments. Looking back is only good in seeing how far we've come & where we yet need to go! The Bible is my guide & the words of my Love!

  • A very wise write, thank you for sharing
    Well done

I think you're doing great because again I am super impressed. It's as if you were the creator of poetry because you always know how to make a poem sound better.

    • Oh my...

I'm not the Creator of poetry...I'm His scribe! I'm inspired my Him, His Word & whatever He brings to my attention. I've been given a love of harmony, balance & proportion [except when it comes to my eating!] & I love creating harmonious pictures with words & lyrical pieces that I can sing. I see this all as Artistic Architecture.

    An enjoyable piece...

An enjoyable piece; loved the multiple layers of meaning for the word "passage" that's woven in this piece; to gain proper perspective is so crucial the success of our passage of life; thanks for sharing this. --Joe

gratias! It takes passage & time to recognize the layers of meaning that life presents to those who've eyes to see & ears to hear! Your recognition is happily received! It's nice to hear from another Christian writer.

  • Age is wisdom and youth i have been told is a heap of blissful ignorance.
I enjoyed this write, but dont think you wasted time when younger because you didnt know now what you knew then. life is always seeking knowledge and knowledge is found in God.
well enough rambling from me keep up the excellent work

    • Thanks for

reading & your kind comments I know that I wasted a lot of time because I acted against my conscience too often! I've been given a very BIG conscience. Now the pain of not heeding it is too painful to even think of ignoring it!

Very interesting piece to read. It provoked some memories in me that I wish it hadn't, but at the same time set me thinking on things I wish Hadn't left me. I use to crawl back into my past and curse all who were responsible for my plight back then, but then as I began to become wiser with age, I realized it was only me who was hurting. I soon learnt to allow these memories to die and I only try to cling to the good things. Hard sometimes but it helps. I loved this. It can mean so many things to different people. You certainly have created a brilliant piece here. Well done.

    • Hopefully

as time passes & we get tired of being beaten up for the same old mistakes we learn to grow past them & gain a wiser perspective & embrace the truth about ourselves & the world around us. I didn't really "know" anything until I heeded His still small voice that said "read My Word". The more I surrendered to Him & applied what I learned in His Word the more I learned & started the process of healing. Conversion is a process, much of healing is also & all is in His timing! I'm glad this piece provoked you into thought. That's what any good inspiration should do & all my pieces are inspired by Him so I'm glad you liked this! Thanks for bringing me back here. I write & post so much I forget what I received!

LOL! this poem provoked tears; causing me to think back into my history and asking my self what I wouldn't change.
I really wish I had this same postive and content outlook on life but I guess so long as I continue on it will come to me lol.
    Getting closer everyday

An awesome poem that causes readers to think.
    A+ !

    • Glad that

you found your way to this piece & that it was something that provoked emotion in you. Keep on keeping on, delve into those dark places & seek to refine & get to the source of the pain in your life so you can move beyond it. My faith in Father and the Savior ~ that faith being a gift from Them ~ is what sustains me through all. He is the Source for all my inspirations & I'm His scribe & servant & it's encouraging to hear that you can find this to be awesome. The Author is awesome & I'm His willing vessel.

    Right There with You!

I see we both are of the same mind, dearest Sis. A few years ago, when my daughter Maria was caring for me after the brain surgery, we were watching some program on TV; something about going back and changing things. Suddenly, Maria asked, "If you could go back at any point in your life, would you change anything."

I didn't even have to stop and think about that one, despite many a mistake and, as you say, a lack of integrity in some of my choices. My answer was a resounding, "No. Not because there were no mistakes and great sins. God knows there were. But, mainly because I learned such great lessons that I would lose if I went back and changed anything. Each travesty also brought me closer to our Father and Christ." She seemed really pleased with my answer and it helped her to have a different perspective on her past years.

This is such a wonderful poem, great flow and rhythm, and the message is loud and clear. So, "how'm I doin'?" When it comes to your talent for the written word, you are doing EXCELLENT!

    Much love and hugs, SisBon
