and there you sit,
a dowager duchess whose
fraying frocks have lost their sheen
marred by dirty inclusions we all see
but pretend not to notice,
your skin shows the fissures of imperfection
younger, prettier maidens sparkle in shades
of green and gold,
transitory beauties in plentiful supply
but lacking your panache
others may aspire
but you are the crown jewel
