as my breathing excels
whispering soothing words in my ear

withdrawing into my shell
they try and coax me out
offering friendship

but I see lies and pain

the rhyme pattern was present but just minute enough that it does not bother me at all [=
it's an interesting poem to say the least, and leaves me wondering...
to put it simply, i'm the guy who picks up face down coins, who walks under ladders, who spills salt, who breaks mirrors...
and lives a more charmed and happy life for it...
i shall never understand why...

Interesting play on words,
Indeed, cliches, but there is substance here of deeper meaning. The repetition of 7 years bad luck every verse gives flow and directs the reading; the ending verse I like the best - when I was a teen, this was how I felt. Interesting play with the imagery, the breaking mirror...
