Archaeological Dig in the Spanish Foothills

we picked
buzzard bones
collecting in funeral pyres;

the lamplight
spoke in lumens
like a prophet’s mouth,
forming o's
from smoke wisps.

wooden boards
moan like cinco de mayo,
swollen with pride;
to be carried by burros
on atlas arms

into sun-dried hills.

    I have noticed - you like bones a lot, I think we all have that one word that just kind of stays with us.

    Your imagery is very subtle, it makes you feel as if I am really there.

    So good.

    "like a prophet's mouth"
    LOVE the word 'prophet', the meaning of the word and just, yeah...it felt foreshadowing here and just, freaking awesome.

    "moan like cinco de mayo"
    May 5th...
    that was an awesome insertion of Spanish.

    My favorite by you so far.

    Mm breaktaking. I definately wouldn't mind taking a little trip to the spanish foothills for a little dig myself... but then again, I've already got your words to take me there. Best of luck in the contest.

    Oh, I love this... In particular I got stoked about this part
    the lamplight
    spoke in lumens
    like a prophet’s mouth,
    forming o's
    from smoke wisps.

    But then you said;
    moan like cinco de mayo
    and that is a gem, so fresh and marvelous.
    So, yeah, what can I say? You rock.

    Can feel the sweat trickle and the bake of the sun, churning and sweeping the dust and dirt, to find a piece of the grisled past, that never knew it's importance. Liked this!

    A very creative take on the prompt. This piece was beyond brilliant. Wonderfully penned. I love how deep this is. The imagery and the metaphors are incredible. I love the last stanza and the ending line You have certainly captivated me with this piece. The title fits perfectly. Is this Gold? Yup! I think it is. Uh-huh. It definitely is! Well done and good luck in the contest.
