[We're all whispering in the Dark,
Looking for an answer to our problems.
Unable to stop doing what we do,
Falling into a bottomless Black pit.
Why don't we cry out to the only One who can help us?
Is it pride? Or Dis-Belief?
We need to ask for His help.]
She never chose this, she chose the other path,
Got good grades in school,
Stayed away from the parties,
Never went out with boys,
Kept to herself, had her life planned,
She shouldn't have walked home alone,
He messed up her life,
Forcing himself upon her,
Now she's pregnant, and he's telling lies,
Everyone thinks that she offered herself to him.
Even her parents believe it.
She cries out to the empty sky,
Begging and pleading for an answer,
She hears nothing, and no Hope comes.
[It's not too late to start asking for help,
God never says no,
No matter what we've done.
All we have to do is ask, and He'll help us.
Have we forgotten about the Book He gave us?]
His mother was never there, always out partying with men,
His father was always looking for needles, trying to get his fix,
Leaving their 'mistake' to raise himself.
He dropped out of school,
Never knowing anything but drugs and booze,
He left home, now he lives on a street corner,
With a sign that says "Will work for Food."
But in reality it should say, "Will work for my next Fix."
Is it his fault that he turned out like this?
Cold and hungry, craving an unhealthy addiction,
He cries out to the empty sky,
"Are You even Real?"
[We pass by them, not bothering to help them.
We tell ourselves that if they really wanted help,
They'd help themselves, we give ourselves a list of ways,
Ways that they could help themselves,
But what if they want help, but can't do it alone?
Are we going to keep passing them by, not helping?]
A little girl cries out, it isn't her fault, yet she's being punished for it.
Everyday she goes to school, covered in bruises,
But her teacher has too many kids this year,
and doesn't have time to stop and look.
She sees the bruises and wonders, not for the first time,
what kind of home this is,
But then someone else needs her, and she when she looks back, the girl is gone.
The girl is only six, not big enough, not strong enough to fight him off,
And when the cops arrive, it's too late.
God has called her Home, one more statistic.
[We can't go on living like this, pretending it doesn't exist.
We hear the stories and feel no sadness,
It's just another child dead.
What does it matter to us? Why should we be concerned?
Besides, getting concerned would require stepping outside of our
Comfort Zone.]
Standing alone on a Bridge, looking down into the murky waters,
The moon looks down at her, as if it knows what she's going to do.
Angels cry as they look at her, her life was ruined by her husband,
His abusive, controlling ways have become too much,
she just wants to be free of him.
Now she feels that she has no choice,
but to end the tragedy that some call Life.
No one stops their car to help her, perhaps they don't see her,
Or maybe they don't Want to see her.
She closes her eyes, and falls forward,
and when a car finally stops, it's too late.
She's finally free.
[Don't let it be too late. It's not hard to stop and help someone.
All they need is Our help. Don't pass by them, don't let them die.
Take a moment to help someone, you'll Save them. That's all they need.
Without Love and Kindness, we're all just Whispering in the Dark.]

WOW oh my goodness; is this a work that you've set to music? i would LOVe to hear this song;
this is one of the most affecting poems that i've read in this entire contest so far - just wow. so, i'm going to add it to the finalists list immediately, and then just before judging, i'll return and comment at length on each finalist entry!

Very, very nice. I love the way it has many different instances in the poem and the little background notes as well. It portrays the world how it is and how people tend to look the other way because they either don't want to be involved or they "have something better to do". The words you have written moved and inspired me which I'm sure that was what you were trying to do. Very lovely poem of truth you have written. I want to thank you very much for sharing it with me! Thank you as well for entering in my contest!

This was... pretty amazing. You had me hooked from start to finish. The ending just blew me away as well. I'm so speechless! I can't find anything to edit, and it's so sad about all these problems in the world, but this is so completely true.

wow
this hit deep...
so many things you've said are true, and even worse, nobody cares enough to help these people out.
To tell you the truth, it gave me chills, and tears were starting to form in my eyes.
Thanks for your entry! -
