Aloe for the Sting

In the shadow of thy wings may I ever reside,
With comfort and peace, from the sun I can hide.
So cool and serene the place thou hast made me,
What qualm can disturb a heart guarded so deftly?
Thou promise, my Lord, and renege thou hast never,
Only blessed me with wellsprings that prosper forever-
Thy love therefrom flourishing like songs off the tongue,
Psalms that the faithful kings and poets have sung.

David saw the world in which thou once placed him
Rise like a beast of bared teeth and reared limb;
Yet even in the midst of such hatred and woe,
From thy presence the prophet was loath to go.
Like Daniel who'd follow, he offered thee praise
And let sluice hosannas to thou, Ancient of Days.

May his lesson alight to my eyes, as well,
To know that thou reign o'er every trouble and spell.
No sorrow can the world and the souls therein bring
That escapes thy mercy, aloe for the sting.

How great thou art, God glorified above!
Ever loosing in downpours thy wondrous love!
