Oh little one, so soft and dear,
over 20 days you've been here
in the hospital for being born
prematurely, but the time is near -
Yes, if all goes well, you'll be
coming home in two days, and
your family will be together as
a whole again, with your brother,
Whom we've babysat since you
were born December 11th, 34
weeks old...it's been a lousy
Christmas for the whole family -
Your mother in tears because of
your state, being tube fed, not
being able to be with your big
brother Joseph, who's 1 already.
Your father torn in two as to where
he should be: with you and mom at
the hospital or at home with Joey.
So the rest of us fill in where we can:
I watched Joey for a week and a half,
almost two; then mom, your grandma
switched out with me because I was ill.
And all your needs worry me,
That Joey will be overlooked for want
of care...and who of us is able to help
fill in and take care of all of you, over-
stressed as you all are, I wonder ?
We love you, we want you as part of
our family...it's just going to take a lot
more resources than expected because
you wanted out so darn early.
Author notes
It's not that I'm complaining, it's just that I'm coming to terms with life.

I've had friends who had babies born as early as 26 and 28 weeks, and those babies are just fine now. I hope that Baby Dominic is too. My nephew was born on December 11th.
Thank you for entering. -
