Fair maiden, daughter of heaven's holder,
bewitching in all ways of beauty and grace;
snared a god who was brave enough to behold her,
and ever since longing writ upon her face.
Sweet nymph, he begged you to let him return
to his land and his people, his wife and his child;
you bore on, wishing for your love he yearned,
and gave up with a breaking none could call mild.
Great goddess, you gave up that which you sought
the hells and the earth and great heaven above;
sending out your sweet proverb in innocent thought,
that if we can let go, we must surely love.

More and more lately, I'm finding myself drawn to historical and mythological poetry, and this was just too good a prompt to pass up. Thank you again for your comments.
