through the ages (gold trophy)

Missing image

through the ages
eons of time
have left their mark
upon shore and sea

what stories are held
within those shores
in the footprints
long washed away

a myriad of souls
each stone a slice of time
each wave a rebirth

secrets of the sea
wash ashore one by one
then return untold
to their watery home

the solitude of this place
so quiet, so alone
becomes a space in time
once more shared

I see the joy in your writing. Even in solitude you paint a picture of beauty. And at the same time you recognize how everything is connected - not always in obvious ways - yet always connected. Deep soul, thank you. Crystallady

This is precisely the reason I find shell collecting so fascinating. It's up to me to tell their story either by creating a piece of jewelry or a work of art or by studying life science of the maker of the shell.

You've presented your thoughts beautifully here. I wish you the best in the contest.

    Sincerely,
    Leo Long

There are indeed many lovely sea shells. I remember as a kid we'd collect just about every shell we could find... wow, that was so many years ago, some of the critters who lived in them are probably extinct by now
      Thanks for reading and commenting

I especially loved the second last stanza. It added such truth to the concept of your piece. A really beautiful and real write - so true, I couldn't agree more. Your comparison was well done.

    "a wave of rebirth"

-- that was such a brilliant idea to add onto the metaphor. Well written.

I read, reread, and read once again. Feeling the sea and watching the waves crash down within each delicate verse penned.
So many stories have yet to be said, and so many viewers yet to leave their mark with this treasure found on the sea.
When they are done reading this piece and go to another they will feel that place of solitude and some will never want to leave it while others struggle to get out of it.
Either way they will know tho they feel alone or think they are they will know they aren't because the sea angels will watch over them and in time their fears will be washed away and they are rebirthed anew.
    I love you granna.

    Beautifully said

Outstanding free verse! What would those shores have to say? No one knows. What a great mystery, and perhaps it is best left a mystery, because mystery is a very important element of life. Happy New Year to you and your kitty kats.

    serene indeed

In natural places our individuality or ego recedes, and we become just one of many, or one with all. You capture the ocean feeling and remind me of the Zen koan, "the ox is slow but the earth is patient." Lovely, best of luck!

    Beautiful write ...

with the silent poem of timelessness and the mystery of the universe between the lines. Life goes on, with ebb and flow, until we are united once again and all our dreams One.

    Love to you, Dee.

I like Moxie. End of story.

No, I never stop blabbing that easy! I like free verse, and rhyme and prose and...heck I even like sticky caps.

I'm not much for writing sentimental stuff...when I try to write it, it always ends up as a 'shocking tale of horror.'

Yep, I'll try to make it back here when you have written to the prompt.
