Sweet Addiction

What is love? Philosophers
and poets of the ages
have asked that clichéd question:
sonnets have been written
and souls searched;
the midnight oil has not
been spared in the quest
for truth and definition.

But will definition suffice;
will lovers be satisfied
by sophistry or poetics?
How does one analyse passion
or the urge to kiss
the spreading blush on another's cheek?
Love, I think, will continue to defy
the power of poets to portray its
lethal, yet sweet, addiction.

    Ah!

    Of course, Poet, of course. Would a wondrous Muse like Love ever become clichéd, pinned by a pen?

    Reation poetry par excellence (reation my word for reason and emotion merged).

    You are a very wise man and a refined poet.

    All the best for 2009 -- may your life be a poem.

    Love
    Myra

    Love your saggaciuos stance, you turned the prompt on its head, when asked a cliche question how does one avoid a cliche answer and indeed love is a sweet addiction dear poet and we are all addicts are we not? Indeed why analyse it, let us simply prize it, much like poetry itself, why not let it be enjoyed, celebrated, experienced as opposed to trying to shape it. Especially liked the second stanza.

    Kudos.

    Love is so difficult to write -

    I like how you took a philosophical approach to the contest.

    My friend, many have tried and never quite managed to portray love. For all her different aspects, none can ever capture the true essence of her world.Lovely write Bill...mal
