times square clock ticks down
announcing new year arrived
rising hung-over

ah the new year's arrival, time's ring of arrival, it will each year reverberate in many a drunken head, but also many too who do not drink will be drunk with spiritual smiles over this time.

Hee hee!
You got it. I'm in bed before 12 hoping I'll be able to sleep even though there's a ruckus going on! Like your comment muchly.
Thanks for your read.

Funny last line. Way to put New Years into a different perspective. I like the title too. Nicely done. I liked it.

TY...
for reading. Haiku/Senryu are a fav type of form for me & I think I'm making improvement in the style!

Kathleen - another good one, witty and succinct! Good word choices. I tried to think of some alternative word choices for the last line that would keep the meaning, but wasn't able to come up with anything as good as what you already have.

Oh Bruce...
I guess that means it passes your test?

With flying colors!

oh those
throbbing heads, lol good one, thank you for this entry,...good luck

I've got one now...
but it's from a combo of root canal, Vicodin & sheer exhaustion! Thanks for giving me the opp to get more finesse into my Haiku/Senryu writes!

I really enjoyed this! Tongue in cheek (cork in bottle?) humor...great author notes. Many expect financial headaches in 2009, yet some will voluntarily induce physical ones! What an interesting way to start one's new year...

Glad you liked this!
Interesting rituals people get behind that bring in the "New Year" bum backwards!
We are a perplexing creation!

Hehehe, nice. The space between the ball dropping and the rising hung over leaves the imagination to fill the gap. Well done.
(And naturally, I will likely think of this poem when I rise in said state...)

Whoa...another laugh...
Thanks for your comment!
I was hoping I'd achieved the goal of the Contest with a humorous Senryu/Haiku! Thanks for reading. Was this a response to my Shameless?
I notice you have to be clever with your advertisements to get someone interested to read! Is that a pix of you?

Yes, it definitely got a laugh. I didn't realise the contest was looking for a laugh (I just went through and read them all.)
But yea, I saw it in the Shameless (I have a lot of time to do nothing today, and I'm in the mood to read poetry) so I clicked. Hehe. The advertisement, actually, wasn't even what got me, I was just interested in reading. ^^
My picture's an image of me that I toyed with, yea. I was experimenting with my new photoshop, a while ago, and thought it came out neat. (I don't know if I look *quite* like that now though...)

Ha Ha, a contemporary state of affairs for many, sad but true(
perhaps I should not have laughed
). Write on my friend.

Ah....I managed....
to make you laugh!
I accomplished my goal. The Contest is supposed to have writes about the New Year that are humorous! Thanks for the compliment my haijin friend!
