Generation X , Please Give Out a Helping Hand to Y & Z.

When generation x
was calling out for a savior
a light at the end of a tunnel,
of a lost heard of sheep-less souls.
They did not know
that their calling
was coming in the form of
chuck taylors, ripped faded blue jeans,
and bed head inspired locks.

Yet this almost bohemian
bum fashion god like deity
and he's musical partnerships,
was the voice of an era
and the prince of torture souls.

He strummed poetry into his music
and sung depression in his strained vocals.
They trashed drum sets
and amped up bass guitars
that cling tight to the ears of the youthful & unsure.

How I wish I was able
to be the fly on the wall
at their most famous stripped down performance.
The front-man of flannel flappers
and grunge worthy tasteful licks.
Isn't it funny that at one time
unplugged record deals
were once the king of all music television's format?

Yeah who knew.

Mr. Cobain, Kurt
your music meant so much
to all my older relatives.
The ones who are in their late 20's
early thirties, remember where they were
when "smells like teenage spirit" was a hit.
Some even remember when your first album, bleach
was consider sup-pop's raddest Seattle hit scene.
They remember, and they shall not forget.

I was too young to remember your impression
and your fall from grace.
but I am old enough
to learn and appreciate all of the lessons
you have taught and spread
through your punk infused adrenaline lyrics
all that spark heartbreak and melancholy disasters.

However generation x,
will you understand that your music
can't be lost forever
in a decade box of fads and fashions.
Do you understand that kids like me
need to learn your lessons
and hear your stories.

You left us from this world of torture,
you couldn't take the pain
but you didn't leave this place untouched.
You left behind a legacy
and a friend with much more to say.

Because of this,

you have inspired generation x

and they truely do appreciate the love.
So now please let's warmly introduce
the next helping hand

to new lost souls of Y & Z.

Kurt gave his last exist, so Dave come on in.

Author notes

Nirvana, most people will automatically recognize this name, not only because for it's meaning of internal peace, but because of its connection to the music scene. Back in the late 80's (1989 I Think), a band from the Seattle scene called Nirvana, would go onto to become one of the most powerful, inspiring, poetic, and talented bands in 90's and probably of all time. Their sound, grunge, would go on to inspired tons of bands in the music scene in the 90's and help define a generation, generation x.

For myself, I was born in 1991, so I really did not get to experience Nirvana at a early age. I probably would tag myself at the end of the generation x era and the beginning of the generation y era.

However, I do remember hearing songs on the radio, but I can not say that I am a fan from the very beginning. Actually I didn't seriously started listening to Nirvana intently into I became a huge of the Foo Fighters. The Foo Fighters started to gain success as I was growing up, so I heard Nirvana through them. Once I found more info on Dave Ghrol's back-story, that's when I started to dwell in his back catalog and all of Nirvana's music.

So I write this piece because I feel that Generation x was lucky to have a talented and inspiring musician such as Kurt Cobain. His death was a tragic lost for the music world and beyond. It just angers me that a genius, was also a tortured soul and he ended his life so suddenly. Nowadays the youth of my lacking generation can not even appreciate what Nirvana has given to the world. Cause let's face it, how many musicians can we say today has the same amount of talent yet inspiration that Nirvana did? And are still getting the same recognition as Nirvana.

Because Hannah Montana, Britney Spears, Fall Out Boy, and Lil' Wayne don't even have half the talent that Nirvana does, yet they still are the voice of my fucking generation. While Dave Ghrol gets shit on every time. In my opinion, Kurt would of wanted Dave to continue his message of music. It's time for generation x to take notice and give a helping hand to generation y & z...and anybody else who in need of musical guidance.
