Fire and ice cannot last together long.
But we did try, did we not?
You, fire, ever changing, always hot.
Me, ice, calm, cool, collected, always strong.
People said we wouldn't last, and they were right;
different as day and night.
When we took each other, hand in hand,
we were just a flash in the pan.
But when we became one, the steam was divine.
You were quenched, and I was thawed.
The light that shown through our vapor, yours and mine,
refracted such a beauty that it was envied and awed.
For a second, it strechted out across the blue,
and painted it with a multitude of hues
that only a lucky and select few
will ever experience or do.
So, I'm glad that we gave it a shot.
I'm glad we didn't do what we were told.
Even though you once again became hot,
and I once again became cold.

this could almost be a song. It isn't unique but still it's good. I often wonder after so many countless years what could possibly be unique? Somebody just knocked one of my poems because my rhyme was not unique ... NEWS FLASH: I wasn't trying for unique just trying to rhyme ... anyway, I like this and thank you for the entry

a little original and a little interesting, the concept isnt unique but your feelings are clearly there, thank you for entering and good luck

Lovely rhyme scheme and what a pensive, bittersweet story told.
All the best,

Interesting perspective! A friend and I wre recently discussing whether a failed relationship was worth having had, the old, "It's better to have loved and lost...." thing. You make it clear that to you the effort was worth it, which was my friend's perspective too. And though I think I denied it at the time, it's at least partially mine too...with a few caveats of course.
Nicely written, thanks, I enjoyed it!
