Little Things

Did you see flowers blowing in the fields?
Smell the summer rains displaying rainbows
Taste juicy tomatoes, the season’s first yield.
Did you…

Hear the northeast winds blowing the last rose
Give comforting words, a broken heart healed.
Feel the sea waters washing over your toes

Remember long forgotten box mom sealed
With your possessions that only she knows
Flooding of memories that were concealed
Did you…

Author notes

The Roundel.

It consists of eleven lines in three stanzas. There is a repeated refrain, which is the beginning of the first line. The pattern is:
a b a R, b a b, a b a R
Where R is the repeated refrain.

This is a lovely ponderance of images and memories, gentle whispers awaking the the mind and heart. Who says forms have to be rigid and stuffy? Very Nice! Best of luck in the Auction.

I like the use of the senses in this poem, and I think you were very successful with the form and theme of the write. This are "little things' many of us experience in our lives-you brought back some memories!

  • Nice job. I enjoyed it alot. It was full of those 'stop and smell the roses' sentiments. It was a perfect poem for me to read today.

This works quite well. I think the first stanza is the most successful of the three. It is refreshing to read summer imagery in this time of winter and Christmas poems. Thank you.
