Backward, Christian Soldiers

Backward, Christian soldiers,
retreating from the war
so maniacs and tryants
can murder millions more.

Backward, Christian soldiers,
or someone might get hurt.
Grovel to the psychopaths,
faces in the dirt.

Backward, Christian soldiers,
best not wake the powers.
Forget the dead of Israel,
forget the New York towers.

Backward, Christian soldiers,
crawl into your holes.
You can save your skins today,
and only lose your souls.

Backward, Christian soldiers,
and things will all be fine,
except your homes and families
may be next in line.

Backward, Christian soldiers,
to Hell with the oppressed.
Retreat into the sunset,
the sunset of the West.

    Trenchant and to the point

This certainly has a kick in it which I'd like to think hurt where it most needed to. Recently I've been reading several books dealing with Europe's progress (?) over the centuries since the Lithuanian forest stretched across from East to West and three Popes fought each other and the Holy Roman Emperors for supremacy - and I mean fought. It makes me wonder if the human animal has changed at all since the last ice age retreated.
Uncover a human being and the animal is still alive and well - or maybe I really am getting old!

Very good spin on a brilliant Hymn

Hmm, where has sunshinegirl been living? Planet cuckoo methinks! What we really need is a damned good war, solve millions of issues in one foul sweep, reduce this ridiculousy excessive world population, rid us of scummy religious fanatics and hopefully get rid of the love, light and 'let's not offend' brigade.
There has never been peace for long, it's not possible for so many humans to live in peace, not since Billy caveman stole Hunk cavemans mammoth bone and he whacked him dead with a stick.
I'm not a war monger but ignoring what is going on because 'we don't do that anymore' is opening to door to some very undesirable elements to grow far too powerful.

Let's remember Darwin he would have been 200 in February, he was a bit odd but understood the theory of survival of the fittest.

Well that's my rant for the New Year, good to see you are well and writing, I better go practice wearing my Hijab!

An excellent write my friend. You are so right. Everyone says bring them home but then what. Do we fight them here instead. A powerful poem and a pleasure to read. God Bless all those who serve.

Wow! What a read this one is! I am unsure of what to think on this one. I mean I see your point in this one, but it just leaves me thinking... I mean, With all the fighting that is going on today, we need to find a way to settle the fighting and find our way back to love, hope, dreams and such. So in that respect, shouldn't we be marching Onward, as the song says? I agree we should stop the fighting, and find our way to love, hope, dreams, peace and all... I don't know maybe it is just the way I think...

great job on this none the less!

Thank you for the comments, which I take seriously, and the applause. The verse is, by implication, a bit belligerant, but of course doesn't necessarily reflect the way I ALWAYS feel. Here is a picture of me lecturing to some defence contractors in Australia, by the way (with a US Admiral in the audience). I am all in favour of love, hope, dreams and peace, but exactly how you achieve them is sometimes a bit complicated.
