To Sleep

In swirls of softness, dark and deep,
send mind and body off to sleep;
in relaxation limbs will mend
and all shall be as I intend.

I let my thoughts drift off in dreams,
where fact is more as fancy seems.

The work of sleep is effortless,
a gift which God is glad to bless;
in sleeping dreaming healing balm
awake refreshed to morning, calm.

Blessed sleep. I'm a night owl, come the morning, though, I want to stay asleep, no matter when I went to bed. It amazes me when I think of how I used to love to awaken so early I could watch the sunrise over my first cup of coffee on the patio.

LIke you and probably many others, I compose some of my best poetry just before drifting off to sleep, thinking I'll be sure to remember it the next morning but seldom do.

I love this poem, its form and its sentiments

    Dee

Thank you Dee! I'm up now later than I "should" be, since I have to be up early in the morning - interest can keep me going after the first yawn. Those dreaming thoughts are like mist, I can't hold them.
Best wishes to you, happy new year!

    Evocative as always!

    Ah, to be free!

With gentle wings to sleep you rise
needing but to close your eyes
I view with envy and surprise
    effortless, no sleep denies.

I love the form, a couplet here!
Is it to show that sleep is near?

My old habit makes me late
to venture up to dormant state.
    Past evening duties quite sedate
    my wings refuse to navigate . . . .

    the things I left undone!

    Mine's called "squirrel-caging."
where all solutions that are born
    arrive forgotten in the morn.

    ------------ Loved yours.

May your New Year surpass your expectations!

    Terry

      Thank you Terry ((hugs))

I compose myself to sleep with a few words like this, as an intent to rest and dream well; mostly it works. Happy new year to you and yours!

    Ah Margaret!

I simply LOVE sleep! It is the best part of my day. I am a sleep-a-holic. Can you believe this, of a woman my friends call a night owl?

    LOL

Thank you for your dreamlike poem ... You are so coherent.

    Love you
    Myra

I'm with you Myra, I like to sleep. When sleeping I don't have to control anything, and I recuperate from the work of the day. Many thanks and blessings!
