Nothing New Revised

It comes and goes in some ever living circle
gyres, tyres pinnacle of human spires
Balancing, redrawing, death, compromises
Only to reach bags end at a different point,
the same point, a balance, death.

The Magician comes to show.
He comes, he shows the ring whole
Incomplete that is how they weave
to a chain
Solid circles, incomplete around
the crowd is in awe rising to their feet

Old man is Aristotle
he wouldn't for the life of him change his mind
Old man is Eratosthenes
he thought himself blind.

See how the anchor
holds the ship in the silt below
the silt is dredged
and the anchor is towed
so the ship can go.

See the student
full of sound and fury
tricking the layman's strife
See the layman's stubbornness
Taking any advantage to strike
Skull and bone but Soul

Drifting anchorless
the wind is the fan
Something 'infinitely gentle'
seems to dwell in my hands.

Author notes

V1: The Poet W.B.Yeats believed that a system of Gyres governed human existence, it here just represents one aspect of the 'balance' verse one speaks of.

V3: Eratosthenes, a philosopher who went blind staring at the Sun.

V4: The anchor is man-made and opposed movement. The silt is natural yet co-operation with human dredging can enable the vessel to sail.

V5 "Full of Sound and Fury" MacBeth's Nihilistic opinion of the true meaning of life.

V6 T.S.Eliot refers to notions that cling to "some infinitely gentle infinitely suffering thing" in Preludes. Here one could wonder if our only power is to relocate the chaos to a new location or if we are capable of a gradual change.
